Private One-on-One Personal Training in Winnipeg

One-on-one training is the most direct way to get results: one certified trainer, one program built for your body, and someone who notices when your form slips on the ninth rep. No guessing what to do next. No copying the person beside you. At Flex Fitness on Sargent Avenue, that has been the core of what we do since 2006.
A private gym, not a crowded one
There is a real difference between a big-box gym with trainers on staff and a private training studio. In a chain gym you queue for a squat rack, your trainer splits attention across a floor of members, and the program you get is often the same one the client before you got.
Flex Fitness is small on purpose. Our floor has free weights, resistance machines and cardio equipment, and members get access 24 hours a day, seven days a week — but the room is never packed. When you train with a coach here, the equipment you need is available when you need it, and your trainer is looking at you, not at the room. If you have been searching for a private gym in Winnipeg rather than another membership card, this is what that looks like.
What a one-on-one session actually involves
Every client starts with an assessment rather than a workout. We look at how you move, what your training history is, any injuries or conditions we need to work around, and what you actually want out of this. Only then do we write a program.
From there, a typical session runs 45 to 60 minutes and includes:
- A warm-up built for the work you are about to do, not a generic five minutes on a bike
- Coached lifts with hands-on technique correction — the part you cannot get from an app
- Progressive loading, tracked session to session so you can see the change
- Adjustments when life interferes: a bad night’s sleep, a sore shoulder, a week away
Between sessions you get a plan to follow on your own, so the days you train without us still move you forward.
Matched with the right trainer
One-on-one only works if it is the right one-on-one. Our coaches specialise, and we match you deliberately:
- Alistair Hopper — founder and head trainer. Advanced resistance training, rehabilitation of injuries, adapted physical activity and Parkinson’s disease programs.
- Ryan Stewart — Olympic lifting, athletic development, injury rehabilitation, mobility and posture training.
- Brody Kowal — advanced resistance training, bodybuilding, weight loss and nutrition coaching.
- Jessi Montgomery — pre and post-natal training, weight loss, bodybuilding, mobility and posture training.
If you are returning from an injury, training around a condition, preparing for a sport, or have never set foot in a gym before, say so at the consultation. It changes who you work with. You can read more about the whole team on our personal trainers page.
Train where it actually fits your week
One-on-one coaching does not have to mean coming to us. The relationship is the same; the location is yours to choose:
- In-gym training at our Sargent Avenue studio, with the full equipment floor.
- In-home training, where a certified trainer comes to you anywhere in Winnipeg with minimal equipment required.
- Virtual training, coached live over video — the same eyes on your form, none of the commute.
- Group training, small groups. Real coaching. A 45-minute workout that leaves you better than it found you.
Plenty of clients move between these. Weekly in-gym sessions through the winter, virtual while travelling, group once the habit is established.
What one-on-one training costs
We price after the assessment rather than publishing a single rate, because the honest answer depends on how often you train, how many sessions you buy at once, and which format you choose. What we will not do is sell you a thirty-session package before we have met you.
If you want the full picture of what personal training costs in this city — including the ranges you should expect elsewhere and the cheaper alternatives worth considering — we wrote it up in detail: how much does a personal trainer cost in Winnipeg.
Start with a free consultation
There is no commitment and no sales pitch. We assess where you are, talk through what you want, and tell you honestly which format and pace make sense — even when that answer is not the most expensive one.
