The pain from a muscle cramp is a unique one that can cause you to then get another injury as a result because it renders you physically hampered and prone to an injury or worse.
One of the main reasons for muscle cramps is dehydration, therefore it would make sense to reduce the chance of dehydration as a preventative measure.
Other factors that lead to muscle cramps are as follows: staying in one position for a long time, low levels of electrolytes (calcium/potassium), stress, poor circulation, compressed spinal nerves, medications, alcohol abuse, underactive thyroid or kidney failure.
Now if you can find a consistent routine of hydration and then reduce the occurrence of these other factors, you will be well on your way to very limited instances of muscle cramps.
Follow these tips to stay hydrated:
💪 Drink water before, during and after exercise.
💪 Drink water all day and add electrolytes to your water when exercising outdoors for long periods of time.
💪 Eat foods with a high water content (watermelon, oranges, cucumbers and strawberries).
💪 Limits alcohol, sugars and caffeine.
