This question has been asked often and the answer can often get mixed up by people because it truly comes down to what kind of sugar and how much.
Also, it is important to remember your total caloric intake for the day of all your foods, your activity level and if you have health conditions such as diabetes. The sugars that are safe to consume, we find in fruit and vegetables (fructose, glucose, sucrose) are naturally occurring sugars that your body can use easily for your daily activities and bodily functions.
The sugars that are not safe and should be avoided and/or very limited are called added refined sugars and highly processed sugars (high fructose corn syrups and derivatives). These are found in highly processed foods such as cans of pop, candy and many packaged foods.
The total value of added sugars for men per day is 35g and for woman is 25g, therefore if you follow a balanced diet with fruits and vegetables and limit processed foods you will stay well below your daily limit of added sugars.
Follow these tips to reduce your added sugar intake:
💪 Eat a high protein and fibre diet to fill you up and reduce yourt hunger cravings.
💪 Eat fruit when you have a sugar craving (apples, berries, pineapple, dates or figs).
💪 Use honey or apple sauce to sweeten your baking or in your coffee instead of table sugars etc.
💪 Avoid reaching for processed foods when stressed out.
💪 Make water your primary choice of beverage.
